The investment by Docler will create opportunities for both companies to collaborate and share expertise in digital advertising infrastructure and platform management.

This investment confirms Docler’s strategy of focusing in three key areas that differentiate the group’s offering, i.e. technology, entertainment, and innovation.

[Empath Inc.](https://webempath.com/) also received two seats in the collaboration space of Luxembourg City Incubator (LCI) as well as the Luxinnovation Innovation Service Package.

Marton Fülöp, COO of Docler Holding stated:
“Innovation and diversity were the main themes of the 4th edition of Pitch Your Startup. The 15 companies participating this year all presented viable solutions and products that meet real market needs. Empath Inc. stood out as a unique startup with strong potential.”

Out of a total of 180 applications from 35 different countries, the jury chose 15 startups that met their strict criteria of innovation, creativity and potential growth. The prizes this year added up to an equivalent of 100,000 euros and Empath Inc. won 50,000 euros that was offered by Docler Holding.

The BIL Innovation award was granted to [Sniffy](http://www.sniffy.fr/), a multisensorial communication device that provides a 5D experience for users. Sniffy can synthesize a scent for any product and can create microstimulation and microdiffusion for retail stores. Also, Sniffy’s audio/visual/olfactory system is also able to record the reactions of those who perceive a fragrance and provide valuable data for product design teams.

Pierre-Olivier Rotheval, Head of Marketing and Innovation at Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL), said:
"The sense of smell is very powerful, yet untapped in today’s communication devices. It can bring back memories, produce an automatic chemical response in your body, and make you crave your favorite foods. Sniffy brings a tangible, innovative product that makes a difference."

With its interactive home-monitoring owl, [Mu Design](https://mu-design.lu/) won the Best Pitch Award given by Gael Denis, partner at EY, as well as the Uncle Sam Award from [Luxfactory.com](http://luxfactory.com/)

Five other startups also stole the spotlight:
- LHoFT offered three months of Hotdesking in its building and a year of membership to [Neuroprofiler](https://www.neuroprofiler.com/).
- [Teliportme](https://teliportme.com/) received a three-month acceleration program from Nyuko.
- Silversquare will provide three three flex desks in their open space to [Aveine](http://www.aveine.paris/), [Digifood](https://www.digifood.fr/) and [Innosphere](https://www.innosphere.xyz/).

Pitch Your Startup is a competition dedicated to international startups active in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). Initiated in 2014 by Docler Holding in collaboration with Luxinnovation, this event has established itself as a reference for the world's startups, thus contributing to the national project of building a Startup Nation.

David Foy (Luxinnovation) moderated the pitching session. The jury was made up of experts from the national ecosystem: Claudine Bettendroffer (Silversquare), Gael Denis (EY), Marton Fülöp (Docler Holding), Martin Guérin (Nyuko), Jean-Michel Ludwig (Luxinnovation), Pierre-Olivier Rotheval (BIL), Elodie Trojanowski ([Luxfactory.com](http://luxfactory.com/)) and Nasir Zubairi (LHoFT).

Empath is an emotion artificial intelligence, which can identify emotion from the voice in real-time regardless of language. By analysing multiple physical properties of the voice, Empath detects four emotions which are joy, calm, anger and sorrow, in addition to an energy point.

Empath Inc. wins the 4th edition of Pitch Your Startup

"It is the driving force that helped us grow to an international company of 1,000 employees. We embrace and support innovation on multiple levels, which is why we want to attract start-ups to the Luxembourgish market. This is the reason behind us creating the 'Pitch Your Startup' initiative together with Luxinnovation." Docler Holding’s history bears a striking resemblance to the past of the giant IT mogul, Microsoft. They both started as garage projects, albeit Docler Holding was founded in Europe, and not America, by Mr. György Gattyán, then barely 30 years old. "Docler Holding was always powered by the ideas and visions of young and enthusiastic entrepreneurs", confirmed Marton Fülöp. “The company specialised in developing and operating low-latency live streaming platforms from the get-go, but now we also offer support for all kinds of devices (computers, tablets, smartphones ...).”

The company looked for a new base of operations to establish its headquarters for its international activity. "We chose Luxembourg because of its business-friendly environment. We found the regulations and public initiatives to be business enablers rather than business blockers and the government to be open to discussion, embracing and supporting innovation. We are happy contribute to the Luxembourg IT ecosystem", explained Marton Fülöp.

The company came to Luxembourg in 2013 and has only grown since then. Now it employs about 280 people in the Grand Duchy, but the entire group, which also has offices in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Cagliari, employs around 1,000 people. "We have more than 150 highly skilled IT professionals in Luxembourg alone! These are experts in different technologies and methodologies like PHP, Java, JavaScript, SQL, DevOps, NodeJS, Network engineering, Scrum, Kanban, etc. The Luxembourg headquarters is responsible for product development, IT engineering and research and development activities, but also all other major operations like finance, legal, human resources, communications, etc."

Docler’s IT infrastructure is also located in Luxembourg, together with LuxConnect and EBRC. The company has more than 1,500 servers hosted in the country and manages a number of platforms and websites some of which are among the most visited in the world, which, all together, have around 35-40 million daily visitors.

In 2016, the company reached a turnover of nearly 350 million euros and in early 2017, it acquired the Italian start-up, Streamago. This mobile application is available on iOS/Android backed by the latest in mobile development and streaming technologies. The App was designed to provide a unique experience with real time streaming for the world’s youngest generation. The relocation of this company to Luxembourg created around 20 new job openings, including developer and sales positions.

“Our main focus is to further develop our low-latency streaming technology and build new business models on it. We are also active as investors, but more to find exciting, new technologies than as a financial investor seeking a return,” finished Marton Fülöp.

Docler Holding and Luxinnovation are in close collaboration to bring this event to the public. "Innovation is a crucial aspect in our developments, and it is also what drives us", explained Marton Fülöp, Chief Operating Officer at Docler Holding Luxembourg.

From a garage to the whole world

They will compete on May 15th from 4:30pm at ICT Spring Europe.
This year, the prizes are equivalent to a total amount of 100,000 euros; of which 50,000 euros are offered by Docler Holding. BIL will offer 20,000 euros for the"BIL Innovation Award". The Best Pitch will be rewarded 10,000 euros. The EAEC will sponsor the "Uncle Sam Prize", giving, among other benefits, a direct qualification to the interviews round for the Skydeck competition in California. 

Nyuko will offer a three-month acceleration programme in Luxembourg. LCI will provide two desks in the coworking open space of the incubator. LHoFT will offer three months of Hotdesk in its office and a year membership including "Strategic Benefits". Luxinnovation will give an "Innovation Service Package". Last but not least, Silversquare will provide three desks in their open space for six months.


Marton Fülöp, COO of Docler Holding, stated:"This year, we’ve received a record number of applications from a diverse range of international startups. Pitch Your Startup has become a reference for innovative companies as they can meet hundreds of potential investors. The overarching aim is to contribute to promote Luxembourg as a startup nation.”
Each startup will get 3 minutes and 33 seconds to present business concepts to the jury and the audience, followed by 2 minutes of Q&A.

The jury is composed of experts from the Luxembourg tech ecosystem: Claudine Bettendroffer (Silversquare), Xavier Buck (EuroDNS), Gael Denis (EY), Marton Fülöp (Docler Holding), Martin Guérin (Nyuko), Jean-Michel Ludwig (Luxinnovation), Pierre-Olivier Rotheval (BIL), Elodie Trojanowski (EAEC) and Nasir Zubairi (LHoFT).

Aiva Technologies, an Artificial Intelligence capable of composing emotional soundtracks for films, video games, TV shows and commercials, swept top prize at the 2017 edition.

The winner will be announced at the gala dinner of ICT Spring Europe 2018.

Out of a total of 180 applications from 35 different countries, the jury selected 17 ICT startups. All of them have developed unique businesses that combine technology and new business models.

Pitch Your Startup - 17 companies selected at ICT Spring Europe

Docler Holding, the Luxembourg-headquartered IT company, has donated today 70 displays to Fondation Follereau to support the project “Mind the Gap”, which aims at reducing the digital gap between northern and southern countries. Initiated by the Foundation Follereau in 2011, Malian, Benin and Togolese students and pupils are being granted access to software tools and general IT equipment thanks to this program in partnership with local associations and charities.

The IT equipment, donated by Docler Holding, still in perfect condition, will be distributed in six schools in Togo. Both, the Fondation Follereau and local partners chose benefiting schools according to strict standards including energy power.
Jean Hilger, President of Fondation Follereau, stated:

“Collecting computer equipment from Luxembourg companies and associations was already an important milestone for the foundation. As this project is sustainable, donated IT equipment needs to be in perfect condition to ensure a long-term use. Another challenge of this project lies in shipping this equipment. Thanks to the help of companies like Docler Holding, we can fasten and efficiently achieve the process. ‘Mind the gap’ changes life of people.”

The Fondation Follereau is active in nine African countries and coordinates more than 35 different projects per year.

Thanks to this donation, Docler Holding will provide 6 schools and 840 pupils in Togo. By 2022, up to 3,400 pupils will benefit from this donation. In addition, Docler Holding has offered a donation in cash of 2,500 euros to support shipping costs.

Giving access to technologies and IT through education as a first priority is part of Docler Holding’s long-term strategy. This project will provide kids and young adults with a platform to develop their skills and creativity.

In January this year, Docler Holding, awarded for its outstanding contribution to ICT in Luxembourg in 2017, offered 50 servers to the Lycée Technique of Esch-sur-Alzette (LTE).

Docler Donates Monitors for Charity

Game of Code gathered developers and designers in 24 teams. They participated in the two challenges designed by Docler and Digital Luxembourg. A first: the LuxGameFest (Local Area Network Party) gathered more than 40 players and the Hearthstone tournament welcomed 15 players.


To close the Game of Code hackathon, the final of the Call of Duty tournament organized by 11F Gaming, which brought together more than a hundred of players from all over the Greater Region, was played on the stage of the Forum Geesseknäppchen. The winner were awarded a voucher of 3200 euro by Saturn Luxembourg-city
